FAQs

ABSOLUTELY! Just register for the event and decide whether or not you want to simply pay the entry fee and participate or if you'd like to raise support through sponsorships for HeartReach. You'll still be given a bib (good for a FREE drink later at Sophia's Cafe), and you will be timed with every other participant, but that doesn't mean you have to race. We welcome anyone who wants to stand with us for life.

ABSOLUTELY! This year, we have made some changes that should ensure you get an accurate time on a clean course. Bikers will be part of a separate heat @ 10:00 a.m., whereas foot racers will not begin until 10:30 am. Additionally, we will have foot racers line up according to their intentions. Competitive racers will be given a place directly at the starting line so that their times are 100 percent accurate. Recreational runners will line up next and be followed by walkers. By creating separate heats between bikers and foot racers and not combining start times, you can be sure that you will have access to an open course and a on-the-nose start and finish time.

YES! Children are absolutely welcome to participate in the 5K for LIFE. This event is truly FUN for the whole family, and child bikers, runners, walkers and stroller-riders are all welcome. We do, however, ask that children under the age of 12 be under adult supervision at all times while on the race course.

We will also have kid-friendly games and activities set up around the check-in/snack area to enjoy in case you'd like to stick around after the race and be part of our prize drawings and/or wait around for official race results.

No, you are welcome to come by HeartReach Center during regular office hours to register in person and pick up a paper sponsor request form for fundraising. You may also call us, and we'd be happy to register you as well. Ultimately, however, we'll get you entered into our electronic system, so if you're reading this on an electronic device, you may want to go ahead and give registering online a try. It's really quite simple, and the program we use automatically sets you up to receive event updates and to create an automatic fundraising page.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! We want your kiddos with you. The bike heat is for those who are looking to get their 5K time on a bike and who can complete a biked 5K in under 30 minutes. Young bikers should stay with their parents at all times.

NOT THIS YEAR! We've listened to your feedback. This year, we'll have a separate bike heat that starts at 10 a.m. Then, foot racers will begin together on a clear track at 10:30. The only exception to this rule is for CHILD BIKERS. Child bikers, especially those who cannot complete a biked 5K in under 30 minutes should ride their bike with an adult foot racer.

No. You do not have to pay your entry fee at the time of registration. In fact, if you are choosing to fund-raise for HeartReach Center you actually raise money to cover your entry fee and extra money to win some great prizes. Every $100 you raise for HeartReach Center gains you one chance to win. For example, if you raise $1,000, then you have 10 chances to win!

If you do not wish to fund-raise but would prefer to pay in person or via check instead of online, you can do that as well. Simply stop by HeartReach Center during normal business hours (Monday - Wednesday from 10am - 4pm and Thursday from 1pm - 7 pm) or drop a check in the mail. Our address is 865 S. Seward Meridian Parkway, Wasilla, AK 99654.

While the 5K for LIFE is meant to raise awareness of the sanctity of human life, it is also a primary fund-raising event for HeartReach Center. As such, we want to reward those who take the extra time and put forth the effort to raise money. We also have some incredible community partners who donate some awesome prizes to provide incentives for you to raise money for HeartReach Center. For every $100 you raise in sponsorship donations, you will receive one entry ticket to put into the prize drawing of your choice. That means that if you raise $1,000.00 for HeartReach Center, you'll have 10 entry ticket and a greater chance to win. And... raising funds by asking for sponsorship donations has never been easier. When you register to participate in the 5K for LIFE, you'll automatically be set up with your very own Fund Easy account, which will allow you to share your event on social media and email those in your sphere of influence.

Examples of prizes donated last year include:

  • 2 round-trip tickets to Seward and back on Alaska Railroad.
  • 4 tickets to the SeaLife Center in Seward.
  • 4 admission tickets and 1 parking pass for the Alaska State Fair
  • 6 FREE movie tickets to Valley Cinema
  • 1 FREE haircut from Prestige Hair Designs
  • 1 Free photography workshop from Learn to Shoot Alaska
  • 1 FREE family portrait session from Cherish the Moments
  • 3 month Basic Family Membership at MTA Sports Center
  • $100 of Mary Kay cosmetics
  • A Mat-Su shopping spree combination pack that included gift cards at: Sportsman's Warehouse, Aurora Flowers, Jacobson's Green House and Allen and Peterson

Yes. We do allow for on-site registration. However, our entry fee goes up a bit on the day of the event. On-site registration is $35 per person and $60 per family, whereas the pre-registration rate is only $25 per person and $50 per family.

If you pre-order a t-shirt, we will have your shirt(s) set aside and labeled for you and will not sell it to anyone else. Shirts can be picked up with bib pick-up on Thursday, June 13th from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. or Friday from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. If early bib pick-up is not an option for you, we will have your t-shirt ready for pick-up onsite by 9:00 a.m.

*We highly recommend pre-ordering t-shirts as we will not order many extras this year due to the cost of shipping to Alaska. Some t-shirts will be available at the event, but supplies will be limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Last year, we ran out of t-shirts very quickly. Please don't let that happen to you.*

You may come by HeartReach Center (865 S. Seward Meridian Hwy.) for early bib pick-up on Thursday, June 13th from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. or Friday, June 14th from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. You may also pick up your bib as early as 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15th, at the event location.

When you register for the 5K for Life, we will automatically send you any event updates via. email. You can also follow us on Facebook at Friends of HeartReach for announcements and updates.

YES! We will have water at the start/finish area as well as water stations on the course. Light snacks, fruit, coffee and other drinks will also be provided for your pre and post race enjoyment. Please feel free to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets as well. We'll have family-friendly activities set up as well as a DJ and some fun games.
